“Avast Announced to Acquire Piriform, Creator of CCleaner”
Avast Software is a old-brand, leading security company that provides security products for consumers and businesses. With over 400 million users, its digital security software for mobile, PC and Mac are top-ranked and certified by VB100, AV-Comparatives, AV-Test, OPSWAT, ICSA Labs, West Coast Labs and others. On July 19 the company announced that it had acquired Piriform, the maker of CCleaner.
Found and based in London since 2004, Piriform is a privately owned company that provides cleaning and optimization software for PC, Mac and Android devices. Its products include CCleaner, Defraggler, Recuva and Speccy. With over 130 million users, CCleaner is the flagship product that claims to speed up PCs and Android smart phones by removing junk and freeing up resources on computers and phones.
After the acquisition completes, Piriform products will continue to be separate from the current Avast optimization portfolio, and Piriform users will continue to get the software and service they are accustomed to. Avast’s existing performance optimization products, like Avast Cleanup and AVG TuneUp, will remain available.
Having troubles in installing/using Avast/Piriform products? You can try to perform a re-installation to fix possible issues on your Mac, Windows, or Android devices.
“We see many commonalities between CCleaner and Avast, allowing for great new products for our user bases. Avast and CCleaner are the top two downloaded products on popular download sites. They are both known by advanced users as focused on performance, so we believe there will be a great interest from our CCleaner customers in using Avast security products and vice versa,” said Vince Steckler, CEO of Avast.
“Joining Avast, Piriform will be part of Avast’s consumer business unit, and together Avast and Piriform will be committed to making great products that deliver value to Avast’s entire base of end users,” said Lindsey Whelan, CEO of Prirform.
In 2016 Avast announced it had acquired a majority stake in AVG Technologies, and then they operated as a single company to gain scale, technological depth and geographical breadth. Both companies are industry pioneers founded in the Czech Republic in the late 1980s and early 1990s, that expanded internationally in the 2000s.
Avast did not disclosed the terms of the acquisition for Piriform. Similar to AVG Tuneup that is still now offered as a standalone service, CCleaner will be operated as it is, and predictably, Avast can cross-sell its existing products to CCleaner users.
