IBM acquired Cleversafe to accelerate the development of Hybrid Cloud business

The report that IBM submitted to SEC on Tuesday indicated that its acquisition deal of Cleversafe was over $1.3 billion. Cleversafe’s data storage software can be used in public and private cloud computing system.

IBM announced to acquired Cleversafe in last October but it did not reveal the specific details. According to its latest report, Cleversafe acquisition was the biggest merger deal IBM made last year. IBM spent over 1.3 billion to acquire it, reputation is included into the cost.

With the decline revenue of IBM existing products and services, its CEO Ginni Rometty wishes to make more profit by promoting cloud computing business. It focuses on building internet services to connect the private or exclusive servers with the public data center. IBM is eager to split off from Amazon or other cloud server providers.

Most of cloud computing revenue of 2015 were from basic services, including software, hardware and private cloud services. The IBM report showed that the revenue of cloud computing business reached $10.2 billion last year, including $5.6 billion basic service revenue.

Cleversafe was established in 2004 for launching the data storage system that used for enterprises and public cloud servers. Pitchbook predicted that the market value of Cleversafe would be over $ 200 million based on the financing value of 2013.

The report indicated that it spent $3.6 billion to complete 14 acquisitions in 2015. The second large acquistion went to Merge Healthcare. It might spend over $1 billion to acquire.

Microsoft has been preparing for massive Windows 10 upgrade strategy

According to the developer of a tool that blocks such upgrades, Microsoft has been preparing Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 PCs for a more aggressive Windows 10 upgrade strategy that the company will kick off shortly.

“Over Thanksgiving weekend I started getting reports that the Windows Update ‘AllowOSUpgrade’ setting was getting flipped back on on a number of peoples’ PCs, and it keeps re-setting itself at least once a day if they switch it back off,” said Josh Mayfield, the software engineer who created GWX Control Panel. The tool was originally designed to make the “Get Windows 10″ (hence GWX) applet go away after Microsoft installed it on consumer and small business Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs starting in March, then activated in June. It interviewed 340 users in November. Half of the interviewees stopped wearing the Apple Watch in two weeks. Thirty percent of the interviewees stopped wearing it within 2 weeks, while the twenty percent of interviewees stopped wearing it within days.

The top 5 reasons for stopping wearing it come as follow:

I didn’t find enough value in it

I though it was too limited

I though it was too slow

The battery didn’t last long enough

The tilt to check the time ended up too annoying

60% of interviewees felt the Apple Watch is too advanced, and they did not find enough value in it. 50% of interviewees thought it was too limited.

While some other interviewees were not satisfied with its performance. They felt it was too slow, and 40% of them agreed this. 30% of interviewees thought the battery did not last long enough. They preferred not to charge the watch each day. A small portion users hoped Apple Watch could connect to other handsets.

Even though many users are not satisfied with its performance, Apple Watch obtained great sales volume. It is supposed to sell 6 million units during the Christmas shopping season.

Wristly also learned that many people concern its price. Most of them feel it is too expensive to afford. Therefore, 65% of users purchased Apple Watch Sport. Some Apple Watch fans feel that it has great potential to obtain more market shares if Apple modifies its battery life, independence of application and offers reasonable price.

Amazon announced to march into Japanese streaming market, coming after Netflix

There are intense competitions of streaming gaints among Amazon, Netflix and Hulu in the United States market. And now that they are working on marching into Japanese market. Amazon has announced its plans to exploit the Japanese market after Netflix’s announcement.

According to the report of American entertainment giant Hollywood Reporter, Amazon will offer subscribed streaming service to Japanese consumers from September. Just like the service it offers to American consumers, Amazon will offer “Prime video” service to its yearly subscribed free-shipping membership, charging about $ 32 postage each year.Then the Japanese consumers don’t need to pay further extra fee to enjoy TV shows and movies.

Amazon and Netflix have great ambitious to gain more market shares in Japan, while Hulu failed to introduce its service in Japan and it had already quit from there. Hulu may focus on US market in the future.

IMB and Apple Joining to Develop 100 Apps in One Year

People often say the most successful products are always the most boring ones. This may (not) apply to the applications developed for enterprises by IMB and Apple together. The latter belongs to part of the IBM MobileFirst for iOS solution released by both companies, according to the media information March 3.

The two companies revealed three applications therein at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, Spain. One of them is provided for airline customer services, one is for retailers, and one is for wealth managers. All the applications will run on iPads and iPhones. Microsoft: Do not modify the Win10 registry!
